Our Spot
Cayo Frances Farm & Fly sits on three acres of land on the northwest side of Ambergris Caye, at the entrance to the Cayo Frances Lagoon system. Much of the property is black soil, an anomaly on an island that’s mainly sand and rock (the result of a lot of people living here about 1,500 years ago - our property is one of the 20-odd known Maya sites on the island.) About 40 years ago our friend Cesario’s family started planting on the property. Jeff Spiegel acquired the property some 20 years later, continuing to plant and grow ingredients for a restaurant he had at the time.
In 2014 he shifted gears and started building the camp… Aside from good soil, there also happened to be 100’s of bonefish, schools of permit and resident tarpon all around. We’re surrounded by near endless water to explore.
Accommodations at The Camp are simple, airy, and comfortable.
Cabana 1 - Two single beds, en suite bathroom with shower, fans, and Adirondack chairs on the veranda.
Cabana 2 - Two single beds, en suite bathroom with shower, fans, and Adirondack chairs on the veranda.
BOTE House - two bedrooms each with a queen bed and lofted single bed, a living room, en suite bathroom with shower and Adirondack chairs on the veranda.
Our main lodge building has a lounge area, fly tying bench with vices, and an indoor dining area for morning coffee and meals on days when the weather does not cooperate.
Most days, dining, drinking and swapping fish stories takes place outside at our palapa/bar area. In front of the camp is a floating dock perfect for afternoon lounging (or casting practice.) A waterfront fire pit welcomes you for stargazing and nightly campfires.
The Camp is run on solar power with diesel backup, electricity is on 24/7. Fresh water is supplied through a combination of rain catchment and desalination. Purified drinking water is provided. There is internet service at the Camp throughout the main lodge area as well as cell service.
And yes, we have a camp dog.
